Arguably, everyone’s favorite dancing warrior this season of Dancing with the Stars is Anna Delvey. For those who may be unaware, she was featured in the Netflix show called Inventing Anna which depicted her experiences as a lust fraudster. But now, she’s stepping onto the dance floor, and the big question on everyone’s mind is: Is she looking for redemption or is this just part of continuing sordid saga of her life?
It is such a challenge that Anna has agreed to undertake as the show describes her as a “fashionista” and an “entrepreneur.” It’s most definitely brave to dance on live television and do it while wearing an ankle monitor that she got after being convicted for grand larceny. When speaking in her introducing clip, Anna was as follows: “Dancing with the Stars is my way of making people see me in a different light” – to which she also made a comment that she would like to make people change their perception of her. But will the audience be ready for a new type of perception of her character?
watches her first dance, a cha-cha with top-notch pro partner, Ezra Sosa, and it wasn’t terrible by any means. Actually, it was rather a little something I could show some possibilities. Judge Derek Hough stated he could not find a word to say adding that he is proud she proved that she can be a graceful dancer. Bruno Tonioli also seconded this by pointing out that she got it right in some instances and the moves looked good ; Carrie Ann Inaba observed the tension that prevailed whenever Anna was on the dance floor the first time and urged everyone to give her a chance.
In her first performance, Anna received 18/30 of the judges ‘points, which ranked her in the middle. Generally her performamce was good but she did give away her tense personality when she said she was glad that the first number was over. Such moments made the viewers ponder on whether her shy demeanor was due to nervousness or there is more to this.
As for now, there is no definitive answer as to whether Anna will continue to stay here on the show. There was no elimination in the first episode but with the twist of a double elimination next week, it would be crucial for her to win the people’s hearts if she will be part of the said elimination. The real question remains: Is this the kind of story fans will embrace and cheer for her or will they demure and persuade her that the dance floor isn’t for her?
